Orange Festival in Fodele

Poster: Orange Festival in Fodele

The idyllic village lies in a fertile valley on the Pantomantris River, surrounded by mountains and caves.
The area is known for its thousands of orange, mandarin and lemon trees, which the Italian monk and Carthographer Cristoforo Buodelmonti already mentioned in his travel book about Crete in 1415.
The citrus fruits are still the main source of income for the village today - and are honoured with a small folk festival at the end of March.
