Albariño Wine Festival

According to legend, the Albariño grape was brought to Galicia in the 11th century by monks from Germany via the Way of St. James and soon shaped the landscape of the region with its pergola-like cultivation on two-metre-high scaffolding supported by granite pillars.
The tangy, acidic wine goes particularly well with fish and seafood, which is why it is now the most popular white - not only among Galicians, but throughout Spain.

The Festa do Viño Albariño in Cambados, located on the south side of the Ría de Arousa, is one of the oldest in Spain. Since 1953, more than 50 winegrowers from the region have gathered with their stalls at the market at the beginning of August and offer visitors a hundred different Albariño wines: Young, dry ones that smell intensely of citrus fruits. Fruity ones with aromas of apricots or grapefruit to heavy, modern drops that have matured in wooden barrels.

The festival is accompanied by a varied music programme: traditional folk music, classical music, tango or rock are played on various stages over the five days.
Fireworks and magicians will demonstrate their skills. And of course there will be workshops and exhibitions on the Albariño grape.
