Belgian Beer Weekend
Belgian beer is one of the most diverse in the world: more than 1000 varieties are produced by the 500 or so breweries in this small country.
The patron saint of the brewers is Saint Arnould, whom the brewers' brotherhood honours with a festival at the Grote Markt in Brussels.
The event kicks off with a beer consecration in the cathedral of the Belgian capital.
A Brotherhood train then takes the sacred barrel to the fairground, where it is tapped in the presence of the Grand Master.
The next day, historic brewery wagons gather at the Fish Market, from where they travel through the city, and at noon there are more parades and processions.
Throughout the weekend, the participating breweries serve beer at the Grote Markt.
