Bronte Pistachio Festival

Bronte at the foot of Etna

In Bronte, at the foot of Mount Etna, people are particularly proud of the pistachios cultivated here
. The fruit, which has been awarded the D.O.P. seal of quality, is considered particularly tasty and versatile and is used as a sweet cream in a cannoli as well as a spicy-nutty pesto with pasta or game.

The town owes the good reputation of its pistachios to the nutrient-rich volcanic soils on which the varieties Femminella and Minnulara thrive.
In addition, a tree is only harvested every two years - this gives the farmers larger, tastier fruits.

The harvest begins in August, and at the end of September the inhabitants of Brontes celebrate their pistachio festival.
Various pistachio products were offered for tasting and sale: Pistachio cream, ice cream or sausage. At other stands their production will be demonstrated.

If you like, you can visit the harvest museum to see old machines for harvesting and processing the fruit and learn about the history of pistachio cultivation in Bronte. In the evening there are concerts by Sicilian musicians.
