Chestnut Festival in Greppen

Chestnut Festival in Greppen on Lake Lucerne

Greppen, the municipality picturesquely situated on the shores of Lake Lucerne, is the venue for the largest chestnut festival in German-speaking Switzerland at the end of October.
With the festival, the organisers - the interest group Pro Chestnut - want to recall the importance of chestnuts for folk nutrition in earlier years and at the same time revive the centuries-old tradition.

Every fourth Sunday in October, around 60 to 70 exhibitors attract around 5,000 visitors to the lake with their chestnut products and regional specialities.

There is chestnut beer and liqueur to try, pasta made from chestnut flour or sweets such as chestnut cream with whipped cream or dominoes made from chestnuts and dates.

The village associations in Greppen present their work to maintain an active village life and the local farmers show what other local products are produced around Lake Lucerne apart from chestnuts.
