Ham Fair from Arancena

At Aracena - about 50 metres underground - halls and corridors of a stalactite cave extend over 2100 metres
, from which about 1200 metres can be walked. The "miracle caves" were named a place of tourist interest in 1956 and have preserved their original character.

A visit to the 8000 soul community is particularly worthwhile in October: not only because pleasant late summer temperatures invite you to hike in the surrounding Sierra de Huelva - the annual ham fair in particular attracts countless visitors to Aracena.

On the two weekends in October you can see all sorts of things: a competition of ham cutters, a slaughter festival and a lottery in which the weight of the winner is weighed in ham.
And on a tapas route, the town's restaurants and bars present around 30 different ham-based appetizers.

At the festival site on Avenida Reina de los Ángeles, just 250 metres from the stalactite cave "Gruta de las Maravillas", visitors can taste not only hams from different producers, but also handmade cheese, sweets, chestnuts, honey, farmhouse bread and liqueurs as well as local wines of the Condado de Huelva variety.
