Crabs and shrimps. Mussels and sea snails: Olhão, on the edge of the Ria Formosa National Park, is an eldorado for seafood lovers, especially at the beginning of August when tourists and residents of the busy fishing town celebrate the Festival do Marisco.

Visitors can taste the richness of the sea at the so-called Sandalgarve at countless stalls: creamy fish soups, grilled sardines, crab and lobster salads, or gratinated mussels - the offer is huge and is complemented by palatable wines from the region.

But the mega-event is also a meeting of the country's most famous musicians. Everything that has rank and name - no matter if pop, rock, fado or classical music - meets on the big stage at the Jardim do Pescador for evening concerts.
