Strawberry Festival of Velleron

Strawberries from Carpentras

Strawberries have been cultivated in the Carpentras district since the 19th century
as a substitute for the silkworm breeding which had become unprofitable.
The most famous varieties in the region are Pajaro, Agatha, Ciflorette - and Gariguette, the small red with the finest aroma.

The Brotherhood of the Strawberry Growers of Carpentras moves in

The fruits are sold in tons at the strawberry festival in Velleron: fresh from the basket, as jam or cake.
The festival opens with the arrival of the Brotherhood of Strawberry Farmers of Carpentras.

Bories: Small huts made of dry stone walls

Entertainment is provided by the Fraisier band. At the same time there is a flea market in the alleys and squares of the old village.
If you have some time, you can visit the Bories outside Velleron: small round huts made of dry masonry.
