Chodová Planá in western Bohemia near the Bavarian border is known for its great beer tradition. Since 1573, the family business Pivovar Chodovar has been brewing soft beers and maturing them in an ancient lager cellar carved out of granite rock from the 14th century. The lager is popular throughout the Czech Republic and attracts beer lovers from all over the world to the town.

In mid-August the brewery opens its doors to the cellar and brewery and invites visitors to visit the production facilities and the beer museum.
During the traditional beer festival beers are served, Bohemian specialities are served and a band provides entertainment.
