Villany Red Wine Festival

Villany in the south of Hungary

In the very south of Hungary, on the border to Croatia, lies the Villany wine-growing region. The Romans are said to have planted vines and pressed wine here:
The fertile loess and clay soils, the sub-Mediterranean climate and more than 2000 hours of sunshine a year have earned the region the name Bordeaux of the East.

No surprise, then, that the winegrowers of Villany mainly produce red wines: Garnet red, full-bodied wines like the Vylyan Duennium, the Bock Magnifico or the Tiffán Grande Selection.
The winegrowers present their precious wines, some of which have won international awards, at the annual red wine festival at the end of September.

Villany Wine Festival: daytime festivities

Visitors to the event can taste wines from around 27 local winegrowers, as well as local brandies and other agricultural products such as cheese and sausage.

Villany Wine Festival: Evening music programme

Several music groups - traditional and modern - provide entertainment and the local artisans take the opportunity to present their skills to a large audience.
And some winegrowers open their wine cellars for guided tours.
