In 1314 Cistercian and Benedictine monks planted the first vines around Grünberg, today Zielona Góra
. In the middle of the 19th century there were almost 1,400 hectares of vineyards in the region.
Today, there are only about 30 small and medium-sized enterprises that take on the tedious work in the vineyard under difficult climatic conditions.

Some of them present their products at Winobranie, the annual grape harvest festival in Zielona Góra.
The event begins with the symbolic handing over of the city keys to the wine god Bacchus in the pedestrian zone, where the wine market also takes place.

The wineries are open to visitors for two weeks, and the organisers arrange boat trips on the Ode, bridge tournaments and other sporting events.
In the evening there is a theatre performance and famous Polish rock bands perform. After the concert, they go to a disco.
