Feast of the Adriatic Fish

Historic Ships in the Port of Cesenatico

Throughout the summer, on the Adriatic coast, between Comacchio and San Benedetto del Tronto, popular festivals are held in honor of fish and sea creatures.
In Cesenatico, about 20 kilometers from Rimini, the locals save their Festa del Pesce for the off-season - late October, early November.

Then the canal port, the squares and streets of the old town of Cesenatico becomes one open-air restaurant. Anchovies, mackerel, squid and shrimp are grilled on huge grates - called rustide.

Fish soups, mussel dishes, fish kebabs or the popular fritto misto, the fried fish dipped in flour, are available at the stalls. The variety is huge, the only condition: The fish all come from the local fleet.

The program also includes a market with antiques, handicrafts and traditional products of Emilia-Romagna. Games for children and musical events are also organized during the four days.

If you like, you can take a tourist boat through the historic canal or visit the Maritime Museum: ten historic cutters in Leonardo da Vinci's harbor, painstakingly restored to give an insight into the arduous life of fishermen.
