The traditional Flag Day announces the new herring every year. Thousands of people come together to celebrate the Dutch people's favourite fish.
The captain of the first ship to land the herring has the honour of personally handing over a crate of fish to the Queen.
The first barrel is auctioned off and the profits donated to charity.

On Flag Day, visitors can watch spectacular demonstrations with rescue boats, join in spelling Old Dutch, admire the Royal Navy, watch cooks at work live, sing along with traditional choirs - and of course eat herring.
