International Cheese Festival in Oberstdorf

There are seven Sennalpen still around Oberstdorf - with lush mountain meadows full of herbs where the robust Allgäu Brown Swiss cattle graze from June to September.
The milk is used to make tasty alpine and mountain cheeses, which can be tasted every two years at the cheese festival.

But not only the local cheese makers take part in the event: Around 50 organizers from all over Europe bring their cheese specialties to the southernmost community in Germany - to the delight of the approximately 15,000 visitors.

The festival is accompanied by a varied supporting programme: Show cheese-making and -cooking. Puppet theatre and magic for children, handmade music in alpine style and customs from the Oberstdorf traditional costume association.
And on Sunday the Oberstdorf music band plays.
