Islay Whisky Festival

Lapavulin Distillery on the Isle of Islay

Lapavulin, Bowmore or Ardberg: Islay, the third largest island of the Inner Hebrides
, has a good sound among whisky connoisseurs.
A total of eight distilleries are active on the island - some of them look back on more than 300 years of tradition.

Visitors can track them down during the Islay Whisky Festival at the end of May, when the distilleries open their doors and invite you to take a tour and whisky tastings - also in combination with chocolate or cheese.
Live music, barbecue, bowling or bingo are also part of the entertaining programme.

In addition to the distilleries, a visit to the island's churches and chapels, such as the Kilnave Church at Loch Gruinart, is also worthwhile.
Or the two menhirs of Ballinabay - with a height of five metres they are among the largest monoliths in Scotland.
