Xynisteri, Mavro, Maratheftiko and Ophalmo: around 15 autochthonous grapes are grown on Cyprus. The island has a wine culture dating back more than 5,000 years - and with its sunny climate and soils, good conditions for fine wines.
The centre of production is the city of Limassol and its surroundings, where numerous wineries are located.

In early autumn, the port city invites you to a large wine festival. The winegrowers of the region present their wines to the public, which - together with island specialities such as palouze or shoushouko - can be tasted.

There will also be a colourful cultural programme on three stages: dance and theatre groups will perform, Cypriot and Greek folk music will be played, but also rembetiko, classical or Latin music. And for the children there is a puppet theatre on Saturday and Sunday.

Limassol Wine Festival: Grape stomping

At weekends, the municipality has organised shuttle buses to take visitors from Nicosia, Larnaca, Ayia Napa and Pafos to Limassol and back again free of charge.
Another bus connection goes to Erimi, which is only twelve kilometres away. There, a wine museum with a medieval wine press awaits visitors, the functioning of which is described in detail on information boards.
