Nduja- Feast

Speciality stall at the Sagra della 'Nduja

Nduja is a speciality from Calabria: Lard, cheek and bacon from the pig are processed with lots of chilli
to make a spreadable sausage. The most famous nduja comes from the small village of Spilinga, where it is celebrated in August.

The Sagra della 'Nduja was created in 1975 and was the first gastronomic, folkloric and cultural event in the entire region of Calabria. Every year, it attracts around 30,000 visitors to the small municipality 17 kilometres southwest of Vibo Valentia.

Around 8 August, countless gastronomic stands along the main street invite guests to enjoy culinary delights "a la calabrese", which usually means "spicy". The centrepiece here: nduja. As bruscetta on toasted white bread, in tuna and bean salad or as pasta.

On the main square - where the stage is set up - music bands and folklore groups entertain the festival tourists with songs and traditional dances, the tarantellas. But Italo-pop and rock are also performed.
Giants parade through the streets and in the evening there are fireworks.
