Vienna Coffee Festival
The legendary Café Central in the Palais Ferstel. Or the Café Schwarzenberg, opened in 1860, or the Demel, once a purveyor to the imperial court. Or Café Sacher, where the famous Sacher cake was invented: Hardly any other city is as closely associated with coffee as Vienna.
The coffee house culture of the Austrian capital is an intangible cultural heritage of Unesco.
So it is only logical that the city on the Danube also celebrates a coffee festival: Every October, at the former Cattle hall St. Marx. At the festival, local roasters grind their coffee and report on the various aspects of coffee cultivation.
Alternative brewing methods are shown and workshops on proper coffee brewing are organised.
There is a barista competition in the disciplines of latte art, barista skills and service skills, and a championship in Aeropress, the preparation with manual coffee machines.
Other workshops will show how coffee can enrich the kitchen and bar. A colourful music programme rounds off the festival.
