Asparagus is also cultivated in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania – at least on 219 hectares. While in the Southern Germany already at the beginning of March the first stalks are pricked, in the northeast at the earliest at the end of March season begins.
Shortly before the end of the harvest time there is an asparagus festival in Rostock - before the beautiful scenery of the New Market.

In addition to many sales and tasting stands, there will be first-hand information on asparagus cultivation, musical entertainment, an asparagus quiz and live cooking of a delicious asparagus dish that can be cooked at home with the necessary ingredients from the farmer`s market.

A highlight of the event is the popular asparagus peeling competition. The starting signal is given at 10:30 am. In the first round, chefs from Rostock restaurants and hotels will compete. In round two, Rostock celebrities from politics and business will fight for the trophy.
Round three is reserved for interested people from the audience.
