Boar Festival

Acorns, beechnuts and chestnuts: Tuscany's forests provide plenty of food for roaming wild boars
. The population is estimated at around 420,000 animals. No wonder that hunting has always been a tradition here.
The prey is best eaten in the community. In Chianni, for example, during the wild boar festival in November.

For 40 years the festival has been celebrated in the community south of Pisa - an event where all the inhabitants are present.
The evening before, the local hunting association invites you to a dinner dedicated to the stories and anecdotes of hunting.

On the next day, the hunters enter with their prey, the parade of the girls' street chapel - and of course the feeding of the participants: wild boar sausages or liver, as ragout with olives, polenta or pasta or briefly roasted as steak.

The wild boar specialities are accompanied by the famous Tuscany wines.
And twin towns also show off their culinary skills; there's a colourful children's party at Piazza del Castello.
