Cooking Festival in Leitomischl
Every year in May, the East Bohemian city hosts competitions aimed at recreating recipes from its classic cuisine as tastily as possible.
Amateurs and professional chefs are invited to submit their gravy for their Bohemian roast beef or their gugelhupf and have it reviewed by a professional jury. Prizes will also be awarded for the best kettle goulash and the most successful family recipe.
A few days before, various restaurants in Leitomischl open their doors for a culinary journey in Rettigová's footsteps. 21 May begins in the morning with a solemn homage at the writer's grave in the town cemetery. From there, a procession starts to the historic market square Smetanovo náměstí, where the gastro festival will take place.
Visitors can feast on Czech cuisine or watch cooking demonstrations against the impressive backdrop of the old town. Various culinary games and hands-on activities await children. The festivities end on 22 May with a big goose dinner on the market square.
