Corn Festival

For centuries Farina Bona, a very finely painted flour made from roasted corn
, fed the inhabitants of the Onsernone valley in the canton of Ticino.
But with the changed eating habits after the war and the closure of the last mill in the valley, the former everyday food was forgotten.

Products from the maize flour Farina Bóna

The Festa della Farina Bóna, the corn festival of Onserone, wants to recall the tradition and invites in the middle of September to try the different dishes like Farina Bóna soup, flat bread or Chersción, a kind of polenta.
The local wineries and the children's programme are open to the public.

Historic corn mill in Loco

At the edge of the village, above a spectacular waterfall, is one of 27 mills from the 18th century, where corn is still ground into polenta flour and farina bóna.
The imposing building is a living testimony to the valley's tradition of milling and can be visited during the festival.
