Feast of the Black Carrot

Poster: Festival of the Black Carrot

Black carrot is one of the oldest vegetables and was already eaten in the Stone Age. The nutritious vegetables arrived in Spain around 900 with the Moors.
Today the original carrot is cultivated mainly in Andalusia, around Cuevas Bajas.

Season is in winter. Then the sweet-tasting root vegetable with its high vitamin content comes to the market of the small municipality north of Málaga.
An event to be celebrated with a Feast.

Around 10,000 visitors flock to the village, which has only 1400 inhabitants, and are seduced by the products of the region - fresh carrots and carrot relish, coffee liqueur and wine, dried meat or sausages.
