Feast of the Black Fig
The fig is one of the oldest domesticated crops and is considered sacred by many religions. In Caromb - at the foot of Monte Ventoux - a particularly tasty variety grows: the dark purple Noir de Caromb, which can be harvested twice a year.
Especially sweet and aromatic is the so-called flower fig in July. Then the Brotherhood of the Black Fig invites the inhabitants of the village to a feast.
The event will be officially opened with the presentation of the Brotherhood and a parade through the city, but exhibitors have already set up their stands.
Of course they will be presenting figs - fresh from the tree, processed as jam or chutney or distilled into schnapps - as well as regional handicrafts and other gastronomic products.
There will be tastings of fig delicacies, local wine, exhibitions and a children's programme.
