In the days of the K&K monarchy, high society from Vienna and Budapest moved to Opatija, located on the Croatian Adriatic, for their summer retreat - and enjoyed coffee and cake in one of the stylish Viennese cafes on the harbor promenade.
150 years later, you can still meet many a foodie in the fashionable beach resort - especially at the beginning of December during the Chocolate Festival.

International chocolate brands, as well as small confectioners specializing in chocolate desserts, gather in the center of the city.
And present there - on an open-air stage - a selection of their creations.

In the hotels and restaurants, there are special chocolate menus, tastings, but also workshops and exhibitions on the subject of chocolate.
The highlight is then the production and presentation of the Kaisertorte - a six-meter-long chocolate cream cake baked jointly by all participating confectioners.
