Hearty Enjoyment: Porchetta

Porchetta, a roast pork roll made from boneless suckling pig with fennel, rosemary, thyme and sage, is part of every festival in Italy, just like bratwurst in germany.
In San Terenziano di Gualdo Cattaneo, in Umbria, it is not a tasty accompaniment, but is itself at the centre of the festivities: During the Porchetta Festival from Italy.


But the event does not only honour the delicious roast, for whose authorship Umbria and Lazio have been fighting for decades. During the three days in May, visitors can taste specialities in almost every region of the country: Craft beer and wines from Umbria, ham from Emilia-Romagna or pecorino from Calabria.


Most stands, however, offer a variety of pork roasts, which are popular throughout Italy - each region has its own recipe.
The opportunity to get rid of the increased calories can be found in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele III and Giardino del Castello: dancing to live music.
