Vin Jaune Wine Festival
The Percée du Vin Jaune wine festival is always held in the Jura department on the first weekend of February. The famous yellow wine is celebrated: a strong, aromatic wine made from Savagnin grapes that is aged in oak barrels for six years and three months, losing 40 percent of its volume before it can be tasted.
The event has been organised since 1996 by the winegrowers' brotherhood Les Ambassadeurs des Vins Jaunes, which welcomes wine lovers from all over France, Switzerland and Germany to a different location in the winegrowing region every year.
The winegrowers open their wine cellars to them to taste the noble, nutty and powerful wine as well as other specialities from three regions, such as the red Poulsard or the sweet Vin de Paille. '
There is a street parade, cooking competitions and musical entertainment.
