The small town of Arcade, situated on the Rio Verdugo, is particularly famous for its oyster farming: since 1987, the inhabitants have been celebrating their oyster festival, which over the years has developed into a large culinary event with several thousand visitors.
In the marquee at the harbour, the fleshy molluscs - just drizzled with a little lemon - are distributed to the guests by the hundreds.

If you don't like the raw, still-living shellfish, you might enjoy oyster empanadas or have them in mussels en escabeche: Floured, fried and then marinated in a spicy marinande.
In addition to the culinary programme, there is street theatre, children's entertainment, musical performances - and in the evening a festive fireworks display.
