Alpine Cheese Olympics

Almkäseolympiade: Participants

In Galtür, at the back of Paznaun on the border with Vorarlberg, the Alpine Cheese Olympics takes place every year.
More than 100 alpine dairymen from Austria, Germany, South Tyrol and Switzerland compete in five different categories - taste, consistency, appearance, regionality of ingredients and the perforation of the cheese - for the golden alpine dairyman's harp.

Almkäseolympiade: Children taste cheese

Only those who produce genuine raw milk cheese from fresh alpine milk in a registered, managed alpine pasture can take part.
A jury of several cheese experts judges the products, and a special prize - the coveted "Dreikäsehoch" - is awarded by a panel of children.

Almkäseolympiade: traditional costume parade

The games will be framed by musical performances, a procession of the Trachtenfrauen (Traditional costume women) and the Schützenkompagnie (Rifle Company) of Galtür as well as air rifle shooting in the Schützenlokal.
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., all visitors can purchase a sample of the cheeses on display at the Galtür Sports and Cultural Centre.
