Macaye, 60 kilometres southeast of Bayonne, is one of the municipalities in the Basque Country where the famous Ossau-Iraty cheese can be produced.
This is also where the Basque Cheese Festival takes place, where the famous DOP sheep's cheese and other cheeses are served.

The cheese tasting stalls are of course the main actors in the event, but other culinary delights - wine, sausage or paprika powder - are also on offer. There will also be an exciting supporting programme.

There will be a game of pelota, the Basque national sport - and a race. There will be a contest for the most beautiful cheese platter - made of Basque cow, sheep and goat cheese, of course.
There will also be a sheep shearing competition and workshops to learn how Basque cheese is made.
