In the 19th century Bamberg accommodated 65 breweries - even for Franconia a prominent position. Today there are still eleven family-run breweries, which make the city at the mouth of the Regnitz into the Main the Mecca of beer lovers.

Especially on April 23rd - the Beer Day – these Lovers come in masses into the Old Town, which houses the largest intact historical city centre in Germany and with its countless sights is an Unesco World Heritage Site.

The celebration takes place at Maxplatz, where the eleven breweries offer their beers for tasting: the „Ungespundete“, the Pils, the cellar or wheat beer and of course the famous smoked beer - a beer in which the malt is dried over open wood fires and thus has a smoky, spicy aroma.
