Chestnut Fair in Cuneo

The province of Cuneo, framed by the Maritime Alps in the west and Liguria in the south
, has a particularly bright name among gourmets: It is home to the white Alba truffle, the Castelmagno cheese, the famous Barolo wines, the chestnut and many other specialities.

Many of these delicacies can be bought by visitors to the provincial capital of the same name every Tuesday at the large weekly market.
Hundreds of stalls transform the central square, Piazza Gamlimberti, into a large pleasure mile.

But the visit during the national chestnut fair in mid-November is particularly worthwhile: a first-rate oenogastronomic event where not only chestnuts and chestnut products are offered by selected food manufacturers, but also all the other specialities of the region are.

There will be wine tastings and sausage tastings, cooking shows and workshops.
Chocolatiers show their art, as do beer brewers and cheese refiners. Discussion events on nutrition, sustainability, climate and environmental protection are on the programme, as are music and theatre.

A cheese contest will take place, as well as cycling and running competitions.
There are special programmes for children. And of course chestnuts are also roasted - on open fire in large iron pans.
