Cognac Festival

Cellar with Cognac Barrels

Since Dutchmen shipped it via the Charente to England, Northern Europe and the colonies in the 17th century
, cognac has been one of the most famous brandies in the world.
170 million bottles of this noble and expensive spirit are sold every year - 89 percent of them abroad.

Fete du Cognac: Festival Mile at the Harbour

The noble brandy is omnipresent in the city of the same name: the aroma of 21 million bottles of cognac evaporates in the air during the ripening process. The part of the angels, as the distillers say.
And a black mould - Torula cognaciensis - sticks to the facades and thrives where alcohol evaporates.

Fete du Cognac: Bar

There are, of course, countless wineries, production and sales sites in and around Cognac that can be visited, a Cognac Museum - and the annual Cognac Festival at the end of July.
Then the organisers erect a stage and tasting stands at the Quai de la Salle Verte, which are festively illuminated in the evening.

Fete du Cognac: Melons with Pineau des Charentes and Ham

The tasting will be accompanied not only by cognac, pure or cocktail, but also by wine from the Charente and Pineau des Charentes regions, a liqueur made from unfermented grape must and cognac.
The pleasure is accompanied by small delicacies such as oysters, cheese or melons with Pineau des Charentes and ham. In addition, music groups will perform live every evening.
