Csabaer-Sausages Festival
Salami, Debrecziner, Csabaikolbasz: The Hungarians are famous for their sausages - mostly spicy with paprika.
One of the best known is the Csaba sausage: a juicy, bright red pork sausage seasoned with paprika, caraway and garlic and smoked under beech wood.
The sausage is one of currently six Hungarian products which are protected by the EU through the geographical indication. In Békéscsaba in south-eastern Hungary, near the Romanian border, the inhabitants are very proud of their fine meat products - and celebrate them every year with a big festival.
Above all, the competition of the 100 teams for the best Csabaikolbasz attracts thousands of visitors every year to the southern Hungarian district capital, who can be there live to taste and evaluate sausages, pickles and wines.
In addition, the pig breeders compete for the best breeding results in a symposium.
A tombola raffles off gift baskets full of sausages every day, there are folkloristic dance performances, but also performances by pop and rock musicians.
