Day of Txakoli

Txakoli is the name of a young white wine from the Basque Country that stands out due to its fresh, pleasant acidity and moderate alcohol content.
Formerly developed as a simple drinking wine, it has for some time been transformed into a respectable drop of wine and has made its way into the star gastronomy of the Basque Country.

The Basques dedicate their lightly sparkling wine to festivals and masses throughout the year - in Getaria, for example, on Saint Anthony's Day in mid-January, in Amurrio on the first Sunday after San Isidro - and in Zarautz at the end of August and beginning of September.

Situated directly on the Gulf of Bizkaya, the town invites you to visit wineries and enjoy a great public tasting. Around 1500 bottles of Txakoli are uncorked and tasted at the Dia del Txakoli, accompanied by Basque music groups and delicious pintxos.
