The main attractions of the market include competitions for the best fruit, the most beautiful flowers, the tastiest cheese, the most delicious txakoli wine or the finest honey.
The expert jury inspects and tastes the products early in the morning. Afterwards they may be sold to the visitors.

The award ceremony will then take place at noon in front of the Mercurio fountain. Gourmets and gourmands from near and far will also be spoiled for choice when shopping for various types of cider, specialty breads, sweets, pastries, vegetables, liver pate, organic products and products with designation of origin.

Visitors to the market can observe how traditional Basque products are made by hand or learn about the latest technology in agricultural machinery. Pelota competitions take place and Basque minstrels, the "bertsolaris", contribute with their music to the general festive mood that prevails in Gernika-Lumo throughout the day, well beyond the market's end at 2 pm.
