Anchovies and sardines, mackerel and mullet, tuna and squid: the fish markets in the north-east of the province of Fermo in the Marche region are fascinating for their incredible range of fish and seafood. 

 

In mid-September the inhabitants of Porto Sant`Elpidio celebrate their wealth with a big festival. Anchovies in particular, but also other blue fish, are served - fried, steamed, grilled, breaded or dipped in flour - on the plates.
In addition, wines from the region are served at the stalls and special fish menus are served in the restaurants.

In addition to the culinary delights, there will be panel discussions on the future of fishing.
Visitors can set sail on fishing boats for a short tour - or relax on a lounger on the beach: With a fringe of some 7000 palm trees, it is one of the most beautiful in the country.
