A herring market has been held in Helsinki harbour since 1743. Over the centuries, the event has evolved from a simple fresh fish market into a big culinary festival.
Around 30 fishermen are present with their boats and their catch.

The focus of the event is, of course, the herring, which can be tasted in countless variations - roasted, marinated, raw or pickled.
In two competitions, for adults and children, the best herring recipe of the year is selected.

The Rotary Club organizes a rowing regatta, waltzes, tango or traditional accordion sounds on the market square - and in the evening a DJ in the marquee heats up the partyers.
Cycling tours and photo walks are also organized, there is a symposium on the future of the Baltic Sea, information stands and a colorful children's program.
