In the villages of the Troodos Mountains, the inhabitants still understand the old herbal lore and collect - as they have done for centuries - blossoms, leaves and roots of medicinal plants.
To ensure that this knowledge is not lost, Platres, north of Limassol, celebrates an annual herb festival at the end of July.

The festival takes place in the cultural centre of the village of 300 inhabitants.  Its purpose is to demonstrate the beneficial properties of Cypriot herbs. The event includes a herbal exhibition, herb tastings, educational seminars on the subject, an entertainment show , as well as organised herbal walks through the Troodos Mountains.
