Wines from the canton of Neuchatel on Lake Neuchâtel are among the best in Switzerland. Protected from cold winds by the mountains of the Jura, the vineyards close to the shore are mainly home to the Pinot Noir and Chasselas varieties - a local variety that is usually marketed as a sparkling white.

At the end of September, the inhabitants of the municipality, which was first mentioned in a document in 1011, close the city centre to car traffic - and leave the streets to the participants in the big wine harvest festival.
The event is officially opened with a nightly procession of a brass band, the so-called Guggenmusiker, who parade through the streets masked and dressed up.

Saturday is also all about music: a variety of concerts, children's parades and, in the evening, fireworks accompanied by music are the highlights of this day.
On Sunday, the winegrowers' tasting stands open and a large flower parade passes through the town.
