Sausage Festival

BBQ Stand at the Sagra della Salsiccia a Catena


Pork has always played an important role in Basilicate cuisine
. Especially the sausages - Lucanica, Pezzenta or Cotechinata - are known all over Italy.
At the beginning of september the municipality of Cancellara, some 15 kilometres northeast of Potenza, invites you to a sausage festival.

Music Performance in Piazza Sedile, Cancellara


During the festival, thousands of sausages are grilled on long grills in Piazza Sedile: the chilly spicy Lucanica, the fine Soperzata made from pork fillet or the Pezzenta, the salami of the poor from the slaughterhouse waste.
Local cheeses such as Cacciocavalo are also available.

Live music and live demonstrations of sausage making are also part of the programme. There will also be scientific workshops on autochthonous pig breeds and how to keep them.
