Sheep Festival

Merino, Manchega or Rubia del Molar: there are about 52 sheep breeds in Spain
. Many of them graze in the green valleys of the Sierra del Aramo.
There, in Lena y Quirós, every first Sunday in July there is a big festival in honour of the sheep.

The festivities begin on Friday evening with the performance of traditional dances and music in Plaza Alfonso X.
A spectacular horse race takes place on Saturday, and Sunday is a big barbecue day.

Whole sheep from the grill

Dozens of whole lambs, stretched out on a St. Andrew's cross, are sizzling over glowing beech wood.
Until the meat is cooked and can be distributed to the waiting spectators, folklore groups from the region pass the time with dance and music performances.
