Sterzing Dumpling Festival

Once a year, everything in the idyllic Fugger town of Sterzing revolves around the dumpling. On a 400-metre-long row of tables - in the middle of the colourfully decorated old town  - the local innkeepers serve a variety of dumpling dishes during the Sterzinger Knödelfest.

To taste, there are classic bread, cheese or spinach dumplings. Traditional with bacon or the pressed or raw dumplings popular in the region - with beetroot and grey cheese.
Or the sweet variety as apricot, nougat and curd cheese dumplings. A total of 70 different dishes are available.

Along the table mile, folk music groups and traditional local bands entertain the visitors.
On Sterzing's town square, the "dumpling spinning competition" takes place in the early afternoon.  The winner is the person who spins the most dumplings from the dough in three minutes. The all-time record is 31 dumplings.

There is also a children's category of the competition, and kids can also go pony riding at the course.
If you like, you can visit the Zwölferturm, which was built in 1472. At a height of 46 metres, you have a great view of the city and the surrounding mountains.
