Frankfurt Cider Festival
A typical feature of the schnapps produced in the greater Frankfurt area is that it consists only of apples, without the addition of pears or other fruit, and therefore has a particularly tart taste.
Mainly acidic varieties such as "Schafsnase", "Kaiser Wilhelm" or "Roter Boskoop" from orchards are used.
If that tastes too sour, you can have lemonade and mix yourself a Süßgespritzten, but you'll get some nasty looks from real Äppler fans.
Traditional cider taverns in Frankfurt sometimes even refuse to serve Ebbelwoi and lemonade separately at best.
In August, the banking metropolis celebrates its national drink during the Frankfurt Apple Wine Festival. Numerous wine pressers from the region offer traditional schnapps made from old apple varieties, pure apple wines such as Bohnapfel or Apfel-Secco, but also modern mixed drinks and cocktails with apple wine.
There will also be a colourful supporting programme with live music and Hessian comedy. The highlight is the awarding of the Golden Apple.
Every year, the city honours citizens or associations who have rendered outstanding services to the preservation of the orchards on the outskirts of Frankfurt.
