Fritto Misto Festival
Fritto misto (fried mix) is a popular dish throughout Italy. Depending on the region, it consists mainly of pre-cooked vegetables such as cauliflower or courgettes, offal such as sweetbreads or liver, or small fish such as anchovies, prawns and mullets.
Dipped in flour, the pieces are briefly deep-fried in hot oil and served immediately. Fritto misto is particularly popular in Ascoli Piceno in the Marche region. There, the mix consists not only of vegetables or fish.
The inhabitants fill their famous Tenera olives with a farce, coat them in breadcrumbs and fry them in oil until golden brown.
The local speciality - Olive All Ascolana - can be tasted at the annual festival - as can 40 other fried treats from around the world.
The event also offers a tasting street with wines from the region, cooking shows and workshops, and commented tastings of wines, beers and other specialities from the region.
