When the earth turns red at the beginning of June on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, the inhabitants of Maletto rejoice: It is strawberry season. The small village is famous for the excellent quality of its fruits, which are planted in the surrounding fields.
There are three varieties: Reflowering plants that are harvested until December, large sweet for jam and those with small fruits that are used for pies and cakes.

Visitors to the Strawberry Festival of Maletto can taste such a strawberry cake. The giant baked by local pastry chefs weighs a proud 1000 kilos - and will be distributed to guests during the three-day event.
There is also a strawberry risotto to taste, photo exhibitions, guided tours of the town and live music in the evening provide the framework for the festival.

There is a strawberry festival in Sicily not only in Maletto: Cassibile, 100 kilometers to the south, also celebrates - already in April - the red sweet fruit.
