Rioja Alavesa Olive Oil Festival

Oyón is located in the south of the historic territory of Alavas, in the district of Cuadrilla Laguardia-Rioja Alavesa.
The community of 3000 inhabitants - first mentioned in a document in 1366 - has always lived from agriculture, above all from wine and olive growing.

From the fruits of the olive tree a fine olive oil develops, usually as Cuvee from several sorts.
Convinced of the quality of their oil, the municipality invites every year in March to a two-day olive oil festival.

At noon the event starts in the bars with a competition for the best Pincho - of course with oil from the region.
In the town hall an oil tasting takes place, in between Basque chapels play traditional music. In the evening disco.

On Sunday, the Trujal Almazara de Oyón oil mill opens its doors and shows how high-quality olive oil is made.
Around noon a big tasting of different oils takes place - again accompanied by Trikitixas chapels.
