Citrus Fruit Festival

View of Cannero Riviera on the west bank of Lake Maggiore

When north of the Alps the first hyacinths stick their heads out of the ground
, the camellias already bloom on Lago Maggiore and it smells like lemons.
In Cannero Riviera the inhabitants open their gardens - and invite you to visit the citrus plants.

There are more than 250 trees in the historic greenhouses on the lake: sweet and bitter oranges, yellow and pink grapefruits, lemons, mandarins and Cedrat.
Around 1550, monks are said to have brought the fruits from China to the lakes of Northern Italy. There they thrive near the shore in old glasshouses.

In Cannero's Pietro Carmine event hall, a sales and exhibition market of citrus plants, jams and sweets, books and perfumes will take place during the event.

There are cooking courses and wine tastings, art and didactic events and a colourful music programme.
There are also boat trips to the island off the coast with the ruins of Castelli di Canneri.
