On two weekends at the end of May, the canal harbour of the old fishing village of Porto Garibaldi is transformed into a pleasure mile. At countless stalls, fish specialities are prepared according to ancient tradition and offered for sale. The octopus and the mantis shrimp, which have given the festival its name, play the main role.

Accompanying the seafood is a colourful programme of events with music, guided tours or an art exhibition. The municipality also organises boat or bicycle trips - for example to the nearby Po Delta or to the picturesque canal-lined town of Comacchio.
There, the inhabitants also organise a Sagre: at the end of September, in honour of the eel.
