Tete de Moine Cheese Festival
Since 2001, the cheese, which is not sliced but scraped wafer-thin, has been registered as a protected designation of origin AOC. Reason enough to celebrate this with a festival.
During the three-day event in Bellelay, the farmers of the region sell their products at a small producers' market.
Visitors can watch cheese being made, take a guided tour of the nearby abbey church or milk cows at the small animal exhibition.
In the cheese museum, those interested can also admire a historic cheese dairy.
Throughout the days, there will be several small performances by the ensemble of the Jura Circus School, a cheese tasting followed by an award for the best Tete de Moine and a Sunday brunch with products from the region.
The cultural highlight is the much-acclaimed vernissage "Milk Cans Without Borders" by the Swiss artist Gérard Benoit à la Guillaume, who created an art project from more than 200 milk cans. The culinary highlight, on the other hand, is a gigantic cheese fondue with musical entertainment on the forecourt of the museum.
